Fernando Alonso is a Spanish Formula 1 driver who grew up in Asturias. Alonso started kart racing when he was a small child and would go on to win several championships before he turned 16 years old. The success as a child drew attention from sponsors and established racing teams. Alonso started racing professionally in 1999 and entered his first Formula 1 race in 2001.
Fernando Alonso experienced quick success in Formula 1 racing, and would win his first race in the 2003 season. Alonso would win the Formula 1 World Championship in 2005 at the age of 24, which made him the youngest to ever win the title at the time. Alonso would win another World Championship in the next season to become the youngest double champion in the history of the sport. Alonso would struggle for several seasons after his two Championships, and would not regain prominence until 2010.
The 2011 season saw a solid 4th place finish in the standings for Fernando Alonso, but the entire season would be dominated by the Red Bull and McLaren racing teams. The Red Bull and McLaren teams showed their dominance by winning all but one race and having all four of their drivers finish in the top five in the standings. Alonso would be the only driver to win a race and finish in the top five of the standings that was not a driver for these two teams. Alonso showed that he could contend with the best without having the best equipment. The 2012 season should be dominated by the Red Bull and McLaren teams again, but Fernando Alonso is the only one who will be able to compete.
