Kimi Raikkonen returns to team Ferrari and will be teammate with Fernando Alonso

Ferrari believes in Kimi Raikkonen but it is unknown if Fernando Alonso welcomes the new addition. Almost everyone in F1 would agree that the top 4 drivers today are Sebastian Vettel, Fernando Alonso, Kimi Raikkonen and Lewis Hamilton. After Raikkonen wasn’t signed on by RedBull, the Finnish driver appeared up for grabs and instead of making a superteam with RedBull, it will be a super team with Ferrari.

The move is supposedly approved by Alonso so it means he isn’t 100% against the situation but with his turbulent relationship with Ferrari this season, it makes you wonder how long he will remain with the team and if it something he would consider retiring with the team and becoming a senior advisor.

It looks like Alonso isn’t going anywhere and he’ll have to live with Raikkonen. It certainly will increase the odds of Ferrari winning a WDC as well as the constructors’ championship. Maybe Alonso can ask or demand he have the #1 driver status but against Raikkonen there is no way he is guaranteed anything. The team has 2 of the top 4 drivers in the world and both are capable of winning the title.

People look back to Raikkonen and Massa as teammates where they fought for a title where Massa nearly won it. That may have given Ferrari the idea that they can have two #1 drivers and not have to have a supporting driver. A guy like Felipe Massa is a great driver and has done a lot for Ferrari. He will probably keep racing and who knows, maybe another car like Lotus could give him the chance to drive better. The Ferrari car has appeared to have been very slow the past few years.

We’ll see if Kimi Raikkonen can take the Ferrari car and make it work for him. With a stronger team things should be looking up.
