Drivers Kamui Kobayashi and Sergio Perez hope to bring greatness to this team in 2012. They have been able to bring in new funding for the team. While the BMW era may be a thing of the past, Peter Sauber’s experienced Hinwil team will continue to seek to survive in the extremely competitive field.
During the BMW era from 2006-2009 the team was fourth in the Constructor’s Championship in 2001 and had six podiums. The team won the Canadian Grand Prix in 2008 for its only championship.
The team was eighth in the Constructor’s Championship in 2010. That same year things did not look promising for the team owned by Sauber, who had started in car racing in the 1970′s. He was a star himself in Formula One in 1993. He was forced to postponed his retirement. He had to rescue the team after BMW removed its sponsorship for F1′s.
The Sauber Team was seventh in 2011 in the 2011 Constructors’ Championship. The previous year the team had finished eighth. It also improved by 24 points. The team did not do as well in the last six months of the year. Sauber only beat Tory Rosso during the last round.
The Swiss team finished in the points nine times. The team had two cars finish in the top ten during once race. That strong finish was denied because of a technical foul.
